Fall Decorations Safe for the Home
Fall decorations safe for the home
Believe it or not, the holiday season is once again approaching. Before we get into the Thanksgiving and Christmas craziness, Halloween needs to be celebrated! What’s more fun than putting away the summer decorations and bringing out the harvest and Halloween decorations? I’ll wait… there’s nothing! Just like any other homeowner, we love creating a beautiful fall porch that makes a warm and inviting entrance into our home. Unfortunately, some holiday décor can leave your home with lasting damage that could have been avoided. Today, we will give readers ideas for decorating their own home while avoiding damage to the exterior.
The don’ts of decorating
One of the first big no-nos is using staples to hang anything up. They are dangerous, need to be replaced every year, and leave holes in your house. Some homeowners use staples to hang up wreaths, lights, and any other decorative items. Nails are another hanging material we never recommend. Just like staples, they can leave big holes, need to be replaced from time to time, and are not always the best option for hanging up items. One solution and substitution that can be used instead are Command Strips. These hooks claim to not cause any damage after taking the hooks off of siding or front doors. The company has even made outdoor hooks made for all heat and weather conditions.
The dos of decorating
Now that we have talked about what you shouldn’t do let’s discuss the many different options for what you can do to decorate your front porch. Below, we listed some ideas and ways to create the perfect welcoming front porch.
-Choose the right color scheme
Whether it’s greens, oranges, or browns, it’s important to pick the right colors that can bring the fall spirit into your home. A little bit of each is also a great way to represent each color that the autumn season brings.
-Choose décor that doesn’t need to be hung
As discussed above, hanging decorations is one easy way to damage siding, trim, and paint finishes. One way to avoid this is to decorate with items that can be placed on the ground or lean up against the house. Pumpkins, gourds, and other fall crops are great examples of decorations that can be used. Another idea is to use scarecrows, large signs, and seasonal flowers like mums. These are all ways to save those exterior walls while still making your front porch look seasonal.
-Add a personal touch
Our final tip is to make your front porch represent you and your family. Adding personal touches like homemade jack-o-lanterns and painted pumpkins is a fun way to show off your artistic side to your neighbors. Adding your homemade items also makes your porch a little different than the surrounding houses.
