5 Christmas Lighting Tips for Your Roof
It’s that time of year once again. The time where driving through your neighborhood after dusk becomes a pleasure because you’re able to admire all of the lights and decorations that your friends and neighbors are displaying. We know the struggle of putting up lights and how frustrating it can be (no one wants a Griswold Christmas). So, we would like to share some tips on getting those lights up on your roof.
1. Have your layout planned
Try to have a good estimate in your head of how many lights you have to hang vs. how much roof space that you’re working with. You don’t want to run out halfway through! It’s good to have a focal point, so you have a solid spot to start and work your way through.
2. Test your lights
Now that you have your layout planned, you’ll need to test the lights. Take a look at everything that you have and make sure that your lights all go together. Does everything match? Some lights have different tints than others depending on if they are LED or incandescent. If you’re using incandescent bulbs, they aren’t cost efficient and if one breaks – the whole strand goes out.
3. Use waterproof LED lights
If the lights that you’re using aren’t waterproof, then you’re doing it wrong. This is something that you’re installing outdoors, they’ll need to be able to withstand all types of weather including moisture. Another factor that you should consider is how much money you can save on your electric bill by using waterproof LED lights. Another relief that comes with LED, they don’t overheat like the incandescent bulbs do.
4. Set up a timer
If you don’t want the lights blasting all night long and causing your electric bills to spike, you may want to install a timer for your display to turn off around the time you go to bed every night. This may also help you avoid losing any sleep! If you need a recommendation on a good timer, we found one right here on amazon that you may like and isn’t too costly.
5. Avoid damaging your roof
If you want to increase the lifespan of your roof, you should be careful about how much you’re walking on it. It’s okay to do, but if you’re able to use a ladder try utilizing that as best as you can. Don’t use a staple gun to hang lights. Instead, use plastic clips. They won’t leave any holes or damage after the season is over.
This can be a tedious project. It can be frustrating without the proper knowledge, but that’s why we’re here to help. Remember to be cautious, stay safe, and most importantly just have fun with it. We’re always here if you have any questions.
We hope that you’re having a great start to the holiday season!
